Continue Using Current Form I-9 After October 31 Expiration - For Now
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Tuesday that employers should continue to use the current Form I-9 - even after its expiration date of October 31, 2022 - until further notice.
The DHS will publish a notice in the Federal Register when the new version of the Form I-9 is available.
Business Information Group will make an announcement to our clients when the new Form I-9 is ready for use. The next version is slated for a significant structural overhaul that will improve employer and employee experience in using the form. Proposed changes include compressing Sections 1 and 2 into one page instead of two, moving Section 3 to a separate Reverification and Rehire Supplement as a "stand-alone", and simplifying the form's instructions, among others.
